Are you looking for a clean, organized and well-maintained house? Ha! Parents are more busy than ever, with work obligations and family commitments. It is hard enough to get home at 6 p.m. and still be able to read the mail, make dinner, and spend quality family time with those we love.
How do we make time for the important tasks and chores each week, while still having a normal life?
Relax. With a plan, a parent can accomplish almost anything. You can get your weekly tasks done while still having time to enjoy your weekends. You can also enlist your family to volunteer.
The secret is to break down large household tasks into smaller, more manageable ones. The other part of the secret lies in involving everyone in the family to get the job done. In my small family testing group, I have created time-tested and results-proven methods to get your children involved and teach them valuable life skills.
Are you ready to take back control of your chaotic home and family life?
These are my top 10 strategies to help you regain control of your home, and your family’s life.
1. Don’t touch it if it’s not asking for your attention. You can leave dirt and dust for later if they aren’t easily visible.
2. Every minute is precious. You can do multiple tasks simultaneously.
3. Get out of the house and do your chores. To keep dirt out, use a doormat. Eat only in the kitchen and dining room.
4. Do not interrupt. Allow voicemail to take your calls. You can ignore text messages until the task is completed.
5. Be realistic. Adjust your expectations if you don’t have the time or desire to clean your home.
6. For help, call the troops. Families that work together have more time to play together.
7. Maintain a healthy home by preventing germs from spreading. If you can, make time to disinfect the bathroom and kitchen.
8. Allergens are out of control. To get rid of dust mites, vacuum frequently and wash your bed linens in hot soapy water.
9. Reduce the number of houseplants in your home. You don’t have to spend too much time caring for your indoor greenery. Instead, pick a few plants that are easy to care for and then weed them out.
10. Keep your home safe. Uncluttered homes can help prevent accidents.
